Our Centre’s Story
Dr. Diana Armstrong
After a decade of providing psychological care in acute inpatient psychiatry, Dr. Diana Armstrong launched The Centre for Dynamic Mental Health to address a critical service gap in Alberta: accessible, evidence-based, psychodynamically informed care for people with complex presentations.
Starting as a solo practice, CDMH has rapidly grown into a thriving team of 9 clinicians delivering high-impact mental health services across Edmonton and online.
Dr. Armstrong was named Edify Edmonton’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2025, recognizing her contributions to mental health care in Alberta.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychotherapist in Alberta?
In Alberta, a Registered Psychologist (R.Psych.) is a provincially regulated health professional authorized to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. Registered Psychologists with specific training can also provide comprehensive psychological assessments which includes the administration and interpretation of psychological testing. The College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) is the regulatory body that oversees the professional activities of psychologists. Psychotherapists and other registered clinicians with specialized training (such as social workers, mental-health trained occupational therapists) can also provide therapy, though their training and regulatory bodies differ. CDMH has both Registered Psychologists and other regulated mental health professionals, each clearly identified by their qualifications.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist at CDMH?
No referral is required. You can contact CDMH directly, book a free 15-minute consultation, and schedule your intake appointment without needing a referral from a physician.
Does CDMH offer therapy for teenagers?
Yes. Several CDMH clinicians offer individual therapy for teenagers, starting at ages 12, 15, or 16 depending on the clinician. Ms. Elaine Chan accepts teens aged 12+, Ms. Naaz Hundal sees teens 15+, and Dr. Milann Mitchell sees older teens aged 16+.
How do I know which CDMH therapist is right for me?
Your free 15-minute consultation is designed to help answer this. You can speak directly with a clinician of your choice, describe your concerns, and determine whether the fit feels right before committing to an intake appointment.
Are CDMH sessions covered by insurance in Alberta?
Many extended health benefit plans in Alberta cover services provided by Registered Psychologists and other regulated mental health professionals. CDMH offers direct billing with most insurers. Contact us to discuss your coverage options.
