Dr. Diana Armstrong

Founder/Director | Ph.D. | R.Psych.

Dr. Armstrong is currently offering individual psychotherapy to adults (18 years of age and up).

Dr. Diana Armstrong is a registered psychologist with a Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta. She is also an adjunct academic colleague with the University of Alberta and is an active board member of the Western Canadian Institute of ISTDP.

Dr. Armstrong has extensive experience working with individuals with serious mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar illness, schizophrenia, personality disorders, addictions, as well as medically unexplained physical health concerns. She also has experience working with individuals coping with trauma, grief, relational issues, and physical health concerns (i.e., cancer and traumatic brain injury). Dr. Armstrong is passionate about helping individuals address mental health difficulties and find greater connectedness in their lives. Outside of private practice, she has worked in both psychiatric inpatient and community-based mental health clinics.

While she has training and expertise in several therapeutic techniques and modalities, her passion is in providing therapy from a brief psychodynamic (i.e., ISTDP) framework. She completed a CPA-accredited residency program in clinical psychology with the Nova Scotia Health Authority that was focused primarily on ISTDP. She has also successfully completed a 3-year core training in ISTDP. As part of her life-long commitment to learning, she regularly engages in ISTDP-related workshops, conferences, and ongoing consultations with colleagues.

Dr. Armstrong is an open-minded, curious, and warm individual who enjoys thinking ‘outside the box.’ She emphasizes the role of collaboration and reciprocal feedback within psychotherapy. She originates from the prairies in rural Southern Alberta and is now stationed in Edmonton. With the move to online platforms for therapy, Dr. Armstrong is delighted to offer psychotherapy for Albertans across the province - including those in rural and remote locations. She welcomes working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailors her therapeutic approach to best meet the unique needs and wants of her clients
