Ms. Naaz Hundal
Associate | M.Ed. | Registered Provisional Psychologist
Ms. Naaz Hundal is currently offering individual psychotherapy to older teenagers and adults (15 years of age and up).
Ms. Hundal has recently obtained her Master’s of Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta. She is a clinician and researcher, with a special interest in working with people of colour facing personal and/or relational challenges.
Ms. Hundal has experience working with adults from diverse cultural backgrounds navigating anxiety, depression, insomnia, ADHD, ASD, grief and loss, trauma, substance use, and stress-related physical health concerns including migraines, vertigo, nausea, and muscle tenseness. She also has experience with individuals dealing with relationship conflicts/concerns (family, friendships, and romantic relationships), academic and job/career related difficulties, and identity challenges (gender identity, cultural identity, religious/spiritual identity). Ms. Hundal holistically integrates elements of Emotion Focused therapy (EFT), Compassion Focused therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based approaches to best suit her client’s needs. She wholeheartedly believes that transformational change is possible, and she aims to support individuals in their journey of healing and recovery through scientific evidence-based therapeutic practices.
As a Punjabi Canadian woman, Ms. Hundal is especially passionate about helping individuals from South Asian cultural groups improve their mental health and wellbeing within their cultural contexts. Her main goal as a psychologist is to support brown girls and women on their healing journey. Ms. Hundal’s research background in Punjabi women and their strengths in navigating expectations from their families and culture informs her work as a clinician supporting South Asian individuals. She recognizes how difficult it can be for South Asians to receive mental health services from clinicians who do not understand their culture. As a South Asian clinician with a strong understanding of South Asian cultural groups, Ms. Hundal hopes to bridge this gap for South Asian individuals seeking therapy. In addition to English, she also communicates fluently in Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu, and is willing to provide services in these languages.
Ms. Hundal is a non-judgemental, compassionate, understanding, science-driven individual who works collaboratively with her clients to fully understand their complex story, create a goal-driven plan, and carry out this plan to help them achieve their goals. She enjoys providing psychoeducation throughout the therapeutic journey, so individuals are fully aware of how the various therapeutic steps, strategies, and techniques are meant to help. She provides psychotherapy onsite and/or online for individuals in Alberta depending on client preference. Ms. Hundal warmly welcomes anyone who feels that they might benefit from her collaborative, healing-oriented, culturally aligned, evidence-based approach.
